Rosie is all settled in at her new home, which I guess she’s been living at for a month now. I’m super happy with the decision, especially now that she’s made some friends and seems to be getting kicked & bit less. There was a rough few weeks there where she was getting all beat up. I forgot what it’s like to have a horse out in a field with other horses! Takes me right back to the Minnesota days where pastures were the norm.
I’m not riding that much. I go out a few times a week and I’ve been hopping on her bareback and walking her around the ranch, but actually saddling her up and loping around is something I’ve only done about once a week. She’s a lot calmer in her new place since she’s not cooped up in a 24 x 24 corral, so it’s nice to not have to turn her out or lunge her before leaping up there. Her hind feet seem pretty good without shoes on as well. We’ll see how she handles a trail ride or two. 
She is starting to get a little herd sour because she has a new boyfriend, which is pretty adorable.
The Herd
Almost everyone I see riding at the new place has been doing jumpers or dressage, which is really making me feel the pull to English riding again. I’m still tempted to pickup a used Wintec dressage saddle and a bridle and try riding Rosie “dressage”, but I’m just having the hardest time imagining it. I *know* that Quarter Horses can do dressage, but it’s so weird to think of my lazy reiner doing it. I wish there was a way I could try it out cheaper — I might have to ask the trainer if she has any school horse tack that I could pay to rent. I’m not doing it without someone to play photographer though, because it will be HILARIOUS. I’ll share with you all if it ever happens!
